On Journey…

Terry and I were talking the other day and this phrase came up in our conversation – “If it is to be, it is up to me.” Some of you will recognize an old WMU theme from 30 years ago concerning missions. The reason this phrase- If it is to be, it is up to me- came up is that we were talking about recent happenings in our church which seem to mirror the sentiment of this statement. Namely that the work of the Kingdom is done best when every individual discovers their part and whole hardly accepts and does that part.

Our recent deacon’s retreat focused specifically on this concept. I am excited for you to learn more about what the deacons are feeling led to do! The Sunday School leadership is in the midst of making contact and constructing an outreach/in reach structure that will utilize the principle of “if it is to be, it is up to me.” Other leadership groups are responding with focused energy in different areas of our work.

Over the next few weeks, worship will be focusing on different aspects of the Biblical call that each person in the Kingdom has gifts, tasks, and callings. If it is to be, it is up to me. Maybe this could become a theme for us in the next few months. The good thing is that the Biblical story reminds us of two great truths. One is that you and I are held accountable only for those things that the spirit leads us to do. We are not responsible for every work but we are responsible for our work. The second thing is summed up in another old saying I remember from my childhood-God equips who He calls. We are not alone in the tasks set before us. Rather, the powerful God of the universe sends his very essence through the Spirit to indwell us and empower us to accomplish His work! With that in mind, why should we ever doubt that what God desires to happen in this place might not happen? Wonderful days are ahead as we give ourselves to Kingdom work.

Keep Walking!

Stan
